Custom | Peridot & Topaz Blue

Etsy makes it fairly easy for shoppers to ask questions about a particular item & one day I was asked about this amethyst glass set.

Customizing a Design

The lady was Christmas shopping for family & friends and wanted to know if I could make two more jewelry sets like the purple one but in different colors. She asked for peridot green & silver, and topaz blue & gold. I emailed her some pictures to double check the colors with her & answered her questions.

One of which was whether the green would be too light to show with silver wire & if the gold color would be better. I replied that the green & silver worked fine together without losing color vibrancy & sent her a picture of another design with the same color of green glass & silver wire so she could decide for herself. The colors & wires decided upon, I gave her an approximate time for when the designs would be finished.

Once we had the details all worked out, I made chain links & got as much done as possible while waiting for the glass beads to arrive. When they came, I quickly got the designs put together & took pictures to email to the lady as a final check before shipping.

Original Design

For sometime now, I've had plan for a twist on a simple drop necklace (like the one above) that would dress it up & make it especially suitable for special occasions. As I wanted to keep the colors simple, I knew that the difference would have to be in the wire links themselves & how I put the jewelry together. After looking through some of my own designs & testing out shapes with wire, these swirly links resulted.

Contrary to my first guess, these links proved to be rather sturdy (when you make larger links & don't increase gauge, you usually lose structural strength & durability). In the test run, they wore well under normal use, without any signs or stretching or losing their shape.

I'm currently working on another version that has sparkling crystals instead of the classic pearls. I chose to use Swarovski Crystals & pearls because of their wide range of colors & hues, making it simple to customize to any taste or color scheme.

Customizing with Color

The red design came first & was based off a previous necklace & earring set. The hardest part was figuring out how to make the bracelet balance correctly so that it would hang nicely from the wrist when worn. The rest of the design is simply bead dangles of lovely Swarovski crystals & pearls with hand-formed chain links & clasp.

Recently I was asked to alter the necklace from one of my current designs as a gift for someone's friend. She liked the bead colors but wanted it in silver with a pendant dangle & wondered if I could include one of my twisted rings in the pendant part. We emailed back & forth to figure out details for the pendant, using other designs from my shop as examples. I went to work on the design alterations & sent her a picture of the design.We made one more change (a smaller ring) before it was finished.
