For July's Art Bead Scene inspirational painting is this picture "Portrait of Olga in the Armchair" by Pablo Picasso. {read more about the painting itself here} As usual, Miss Brandi has pulled out several colors from the art to make a palette.
When I first saw the palette, I thought that with all the teal green tones, it would be simple to design something...but couldn't get the colors to cooporate. Thinking that I probably wouldn't participate this time after all, I saw a design that was mostly one of the subdominate colors with splashes of teal thrown in.
I had forgotten that option & with teal no longer the main color of the design, it all came together. However, as it was close to the end of the month, I was short on time. So, I decided to make earrings instead of a necklace.
I wanted them to be rather eye-catching but still simple to construct, so hoops were my choice. The green center dangles are my work, handmade from polymer clay, impressed with a floral embroidery pattern, lightly smeared with gold paint & sealed with a glossy glaze.
Honey yellow Czech glass & dark teal Swarovski crystals are wire wrapped onto the circle frames that I made. I kept the whole design rather in the light & bright color tones with a single antique brass link to add a little contrast.
Sometimes the simplest things elude us. I think your color choice goes well together and are great for Summer. The dangling center beads within the outer hoops probably give wonderful movement when worn, suggesting the dancer pictured.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful design, Catherine... I love your little PC charms and how you have arrayed the crystals around it like a tiara. Very elegant, just like the lovely Olga!
